Transforming Dreams into Reality: Shea and Syd McGee's Dream Home Makeover on Netflix

During the lockdown period that defined our recent past, a casual evening of “Netflix and chill” became not just an occasional leisure activity but a prevalent national phenomenon. As we prepare for more time indoors this winter season, Netflix has responded with its latest hit series, Dream Home Makeover. Featuring interior designers Shea and Syd McGee, this show showcases their design prowess as they revamp the Salt Lake City home of neighbors Nate and Linley Hutchinson.

In Episode 2 titled “Manor House Designs,” viewers are taken through the transformation of the couple’s stunning new abode which encompasses six bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms spread across an impressive 7,900 square feet. The McGees have created a design narrative that is both grand and intimateshowcasing their goal to make great design accessible at every price point.

The project centers on crafting spaces that feel personal but also catered towards the needs of a growing family. This is reflected in the Hutchinsons’ breakfast nooka cozy yet functional area where we can easily envision Netflix evenings with the warmth and comfort of these chrs:

As you might have guessed, it was the seripitous mix-up during construction that gifted the Hutchinsons an incredible basement. An underground floor with towering ceilings and extensive windows, this space has been transformed into a dream play area for their children. The McGees expertly separated out various zones for games, televisions, seating areas, and bunk beds, while mntning its original architectural grandeur.

Matching the dining room with an elegant layout that maximizes space through open-plan designs is keyespecially with at least seven feet of clearance under pant lights for higher ceilings. The McGees have chosen a perfect setup featuring matching cane chrs around this breathtaking table:

Transitioning into the dining room reveals not just a space but a true gathering pointthe living room. With ample sunlight filling every nook, it feels as though you could sit here for hours with a cup of coffee in hand.
