The renowned Mson Shangh exhibition took place from September 9 to 12, 2019, at the Shangh World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center. This four-day event, which spanned an area of 70,000 square meters across various halls, attracted a total of 46,000 visitors. More than 550 Chinese and international exhibitors showcased high-quality products and innovative designs.
Theme Exhibitions: The H4 Pavilion featured three curated exhibitions: History the Future - a retrospective journey from the hundred years of Bauhaus to contemporary Chinese design, Homeplus: The Habitat Lab, and Chinese Home Decor - Colours Without Boundaries.
Book Launch: A major highlight was the launch of 'Contemporary Chinese Furniture Design - A New Wave of Creativity', the first comprehensive book on contemporary Chinese furniture. This event marked a significant milestone in recognizing Chinese design talent globally.
The book's launch kicked off with inspiring speeches by authors Charlotte and Peter Fiell, followed by an insightful design forum discussion. Leading figures such as Zhang Zhoujie, Song Tao, Jeff Dayu Shi, Hou Zheng-Guang, participated in the forum to share their insights on contemporary Chinese furniture design.
A selection of 50 iconic pieces were displayed at the History the Future exhibition within H4. These designs were organized into five themes:
Cultural References - Paying homage to traditional Chinese cultural heritage, designers like Zhang Zhoujie and Song Tao incorporated historical elements with contemporary aesthetics.
Design Art - Originating in avant-garde work from Shao Fan's Chrs ? series in 1995, this theme showcases boundary-pushing designs that bl fine arts with furniture.
Neo-Ming Style - Characterized by striking simplicity and elegance, Neo-Ming designs reflect a modern interpretation of classical Chinese design principles.
Craft Transcence: Chinese contemporary objects were displayed here, highlighting the merging of traditional craftsmanship with innovative materials and techniques.
Future Horizons - Representing the evolution of Chinese design, this theme showcased progressive furniture that reflects China's influence on global design trs.
This event not only celebrated the artistic and creative contributions of contemporary Chinese designers but also signaled a new era in Chinese design influence on the international stage. The book launch at Mson Shangh underscored how Chinese furniture design is undergoing significant transformations while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
